Despite his short life and the fact that he destroyed some of his works during the last period of his illness, Hans Rott has left many compositions. All (known) compositions by Hans Rott are kept in the Music Collections of the Austrian National Library in Vienna.

The following works index states, however, only the playable works, i.e. those of which there exists a fair copy or which apparently can be reconstructed from drafts. The other compositions are stated in the works index.

This index is based upon the lists of Kreysing [in addition to this list Kreysing's work index contains an incipit (notes of the first bars) of each composition as well as references to the autographs], Nowak and Banks (unpublished dissertation). Based upon latest findings (especially Volker Johannes Schmidt's work) it has been corrected and completed.

The numbers given in the references Nowak and Banks refer to the respective works indexes.
