1. Hans Rott on the radio
In the run-up of the
Bruckner Festival 2002 in Würzburg the Bayerischer Rundfunk
(Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation) will report on Hans
Rott even twice:
Thursday, October
17th
Der »Begründer der neuen
Symphonie« (The "founder of the new Symphony")
Bayern 2, 22:05 Uhr (German time)
Details:
(Hans Rott and the Viennese symphonic art of the Fin
de siècle) - Von Jörg Krämer.
The transmission will give
a survey on Rott's short life and will show the singular
position of his Symphony in E major in the late Romantic
symphonic music because of its new concept:
Symphonie" bezeichnete."

2. Bruckner Festival 2002
(Part I)
The first weekend of the
Bruckner Festival 2002 in Würzburg is over. It brought
besides many - also less known - works by Anton
Bruckner, the organ teacher of Hans Rott, thanks to
Erwin Horn's involvement many world premieres of Hans
Rott's works. Rott's chamber works were given on a high
level; they artists proved that they have more than
just historical value. Especially the song "Der
Sänger" (The Singer) - one of his later works -
was very well received. The interpretation of Rott's
string quartet in c minor (for the first time with all
five movements) by the Arco Quartet was very inspiring.
In the evening, Erwin Horn played brilliantly his impressive
organ transcription of the first movement from the Symphony
in E major and proved that this is a composition by
an organist.
We look forward to the
second weekend which will bring the Symphony in E major
(the first performance of the new edition by Ries
& Erler) and the "Pastorales Vorspiel" (Pastoral
Prelude) - more details.
3. Paper on Rott's songs
During the Bruckner Festival
the prospective Master of Music, Mr. Marihart, told
us that he will work on a paper (Magisterarbeit) dealing
with Rott's songs. We wish him all the best for his
very pleasant work.
4. New editors
for Rott's works
As we already reported
there will be new editors for the Symphony in E major
(Ries & Erler) and the string quartet in c minor
(Doblinger). Whereas Doblinger didn't answer to
our inquiry, Ries & Erler told us that the score
and the parts are available for rent (http://www.riesunderler.de/).
5. cpo CD
still successful
If you have a look at the
cpo charts (www.cpo.de), you can see that the latest Rott CD
seems to be a commercial success. Although it is
not always in the upper part of the charts, it keeps
No. 14 at the moment. If you leave the bargains
out of consideration, it even holds the 4th place!
This might lead to the result that cpo will think about
another Rott CD. We will keep you informed.
6. More than 10,000
hits
We are proud to tell you
that the website on Hans Rott is far more successful
than we expected. Two days ago we counted the 10,000th
visitor! This is an enormous encouragement to keep this
site up to date and increase it. We plan to
complete the details on Rott's performable works and
pesent a complete list his sketches and uncompleted
works, based on the researches done by Nowak and Banks.
But this might take quite a while.
We encourage all of you
to contribute to our site.
Thanks a lot for your interest.
